First Impressions

It’s not too common to come across a straight landrace strain, so I grabbed this Afghani which was cultivated by Legend as soon as I saw it at The Apothecarium, a marijuana dispensary in Burtonsville, MD. A landrace strain refers to the geographic location of origin opposed to the genetics that combined to create this strain. Smuggled Landrace seeds were the basic building blocks of the long term community effort to evolve cannabis genetics. It’s time to roll this one up and see how it smokes… Cheers!

Genetics and Terpenes

The Afghani strain is a pure indica and as discussed above is considered a landrace. The dominant terpenes are beta-myrcene and beta-caryophyllene. This batch is 3.32% in total terpenes.

Looks and Structure

Beautiful green buds with a bunch of orange pistils weaving into one another and a good trichome coverage. They aren’t that dense and have a more fluffy structure.

Scent

The aroma is very distinct and unique. It’s sharp herbal, a spice and tea leaf combo, and a light floraly undertone.

Taste

The flavor is just as unique first giving off some spicy notes first then giving off smoother herbal and piney flavors.

Effects

This strain was deeply sedating for me. Leaning heavily into the indica genes, my brain pretty much shut off, not wanting to think or do anything besides find the comfiest spot on the couch. Delivering a pain free experience that really helped loosen up some joint pain and easing me into a peaceful slumber, still stuck in that same spot on the couch.

Final Thoughts

Afghani stands as a legendary landrace strain that offers a rare opportunity to experience a foundational pillar of cannabis genetics. If you’re lucky enough to find this strain in its original landrace form cultivated expertly by Legend, do yourself a favor and grab it. It has been the building block for so many popular hybrids worldwide for a reason: it’s world-class cannabis that consistently delivers a blissful, tingly, and stress-free experience and for that reason we're giving it the Certified Stoner Stamp of Approval.
