First Impressions
When I swung by Grow West Dispensary out in Cumberland, Maryland, their in-house cut of Black Maple immediately caught my eye. It’s definitely one of my favorite strains, and we recently reviewed it in rosin form, so I’m excited to see some Black Maple Buds this time. If it's anything like the extract, I knew I was in for a seriously flavorful session and seeing that it had nearly 3% total terpenes, I have a feeling I’m correct. Let’s light this doink up… Cheers!
Genetics and Terpenes
The Black Maple strain is sativa dominant and a result of crossing Dulce de Uva x Sherbanger. The dominant terpenes are limonene and pinene. This batch is 2.81% in total terpenes.
Looks and Structure
The nugs were a vibrant, earthy green, completely caked in a thick, frosty layer of shimmering trichomes that left my fingers sticky as hell.
Scent
These Black Maple buds have an extremely sweet aroma that smelled almost sugary. This batch also had a nice candy terp profile coming out of the tin too. Underneath that sweetness, the pinene really pushed through, providing a fresh, earthy backbone.
Taste
On the inhale, I got a mouth-coating, sweet, sugary flavor. As I exhaled, the profile evolved perfectly, leaving a lingering taste of sour citrus, pine, and a perfectly spicy black pepper kick on my palate.
Effects
The high hit me fast, rushing right to my head with a massive wave of uplifting, cerebral energy. Thanks to those sativa-dominant genetics and the heavy limonene/pinene combo, it completely cleared away any morning brain fog and left me feeling incredibly focused, happy, and motivated. This heady euphoria was perfectly balanced by a warm, mellow physical relaxation that kept my body feeling great without ever dragging me down or making me sluggish. It was a beautifully well-balanced high that was perfectly suited for getting things done or just enjoying a sunny afternoon outside.
Final Thoughts
Man, Grow West seriously killed it with this Black Maple Reserve Tin. Lighting up a joint of this Black Maple with my morning coffee was just an absolute game-changer. It's not every day I find a flower that literally tastes like the sugary cereal I usually eat for breakfast. This was actually a recommendation by one of you! We’re definitely going to be checking out other strains from Grow West and we look forward to your future recommendations as well. We’ll see if it gets the Certified Stoner Stamp of Approval like this Black Maple did!
